SPRING /SUMMER TREND: CHECK OR PLAID

Check, or plaid as it’s also known, is a hot trend for 2009.  I’ve used my favorite stores of Gap, Old Navy and Ralph Lauren again for their very hip but very functional selections, with some suggestions for both the girls and boys of the house.

BOYS:

Ralph Lauren Short-Sleeved Blue Plaid Blake – $27.99

I love the colors of this shirt, and it would look equally as good dressed up with some beige shorts or slacks  and brown belt for a formal occasion, or with denim jeans or shorts and untucked with flip-flops for everyday wear.

Old Navy Boys Plaid Chest-Pocket Shirts – $12.00

A perfect casual shirt that can be worn with jeans or shorts, and with or without a t-shirt underneath.

Ralph Lauren Madras Plaid Nicholas Short – $29.99

I also love the colors of these shorts, and a big plus is they come with a belt!  These can be worn with white t-shirt and sandals or flip-flops, or with a polo in pretty much any color.  Be adventurous and go for something bold like keep purple or a light pink (check out Ralph Lauren’s polos which come in a huge range of colors).

GIRLS:

Ralph Lauren Madras Edina Blouse – $29.99

Ralph Lauren Evon Plaid Oxford Dress – $44.99

Dress is up or dress it down! This plaid dress is perfect with a pair of pretty sandals or would look just as fun with flip flops.  For cooler evenings, it could be teamed with a pink shawl or white cardigan.

Old Navy Girls Plaid Tie-Belt Sundresses – $14.99

This dress is great to throw over a swim suit at the beach and for casual day time wear.

Gap Girls Bright plaid Bermudas – $26.50

Like the boys plaid shorts, these great Gap bermudas can be teamed with pretty much any colored top.  Try a white, pink or blue t-shirt or blouse, with a colored belt or even a bright scarf through the belt loops to make a fun outift.
