Small steps project is a humanitarian charity that started as a small project delivering Wellington boots to the children on the biggest dump in Cambodia. After the success of the first project and public donations it grew to delivering not only boots but school shoes to encourage children off the dumps and into education in both Cambodia and Nicaragua. However it became clear that in order to deliver more projects as the charity discovered more dumps and wanted to raise more money for clothes, hygiene kits and school supplies more money was needed.

That was when the founder, Amy Hanson, a former showbiz reporter decided to ask every celebrity she had ever interviewed to donate a pair of their shoes to raise funds to help even more children. Little did she know that so many celebrities would take part and now, a year after the charity became registered she has collected over 60 pairs. You can bid for Sienna Miller’s, Sarah Jessica Parker’s, Joanna Lumley (Ab Fab baby), Rachael Weisz, Chris Noth (aka Mr Big) and Colin Firth – and that is just a few!

12 will be auctioned, including kate moss’s stilettos at a star studded fundraising event at the royal society of medicine at 7pm on October 12th, alongside the premiere of the new Documentary and public tickets are available this week and an online auction will follow.

Celebrities, perhaps more than regular people, have adventurous taste in baby names.

Just look at Gwyneth Paltrow, who named her daughter Apple, Nicole Richie, whose son is called Sparrow, and Shayne Lamas, who yesterday announced that her unborn daughter would be named Press.

But it seems they don’t stay unusual for long, as new research released today has revealed the huge influence stars’ children’s names have on baby name trends.

Valentina, the name of Salma Hayek’s three-year-old daughter, has stormed the baby name charts too, rising 250 places to 152 since 2007. When it comes to boys, it is Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s eldest adopted son Maddox whose name is most popular among new parents in the U.S. The ten-year-old’s name far exceeds those of his siblings in influence, particularly Shiloh and Knox, whose unusual names appear to have had far less hold on the nation’s imagination. The name of Gwen Stefani’s older son, Kingston, five, has also proved a hit, as has the name of Kate Hudson’s seven-year-old boy, Ryder.

But not every celebrity baby name has the potential to have such an impact, as Nameberry’s Pamela Redmond Satran explained.

‘For a celebrity baby name to make it big seems to take a combination of parental star power and intrinsic name appeal,’ she said. ‘Reese Witherspoon’s Ava caught on in a major way, for instance, while son Deacon’s name may be just too quirky or religious for widespread use.’

Other celebrity baby names that Nameberry believes will be influential, but have not yet broken into the top 1,000 list are Clementine, chosen by Claudia Schiffer and Ethan Hawke, Romy, the name of Sofia Coppola’s three-year-old daughter, and Jenna Elfman’s daughter Story.

Others, the site’s experts say, ‘fall on the wrong side of the line between distinctive and weird’, and will never achieve widespread popularity. These include the names of Suri (daughter of Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise), Sunday (daughter of Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban) and Egypt (son of Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz).

Also among the least likely to trend were the names of Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon’s twins Monroe and Moroccan – as well as the aforementioned Apple, daughter of Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin, and Nicole Richie and Joel Madden’s son Sparrow.

NAMEBERRY’S MOST INFLUENTIAL CELEBRITY BABY NAMES

AVA: Heather Locklear first revived the name of the Hollywood star in 1997, but it really climbed after Reese Witherspoon used it too, in 1999.

EMERSON (for a girl): When Teri Hatcher named daughter Emerson in 1997, there were six boys for every girl with the name. Now there are 1,000 female Emersons to every 612 boys.

KINGSTON: This place name entered the top 1,000 in 2006, the same year Gwen Stefani used it for her son. It is now at number 214.

MADDOX: Maddox is still the dominant baby name influencer in the Brangelina brood. Born in 2001, his name is now at 180.

MATILDA: Harks back to late dad Heath Ledger’s native Australia. When Michelle Williams gave birth in 2005, Matilda entered the top 1,000 after a 45-year absence.

RYDER: The name Ryder has tripled since Kate Hudson chose it in 2004. New son Bingham is unlikely to have the same influence.

VALENTINA: This romantic name, chosen for Salma Hayek’s daughter in 2007, has risen 250 places on the popularity chart to number 152.

VIOLET: Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck revived Violet in 2005. At 372 then, it’s now closing in on the top 100. SERAPHINA, her sister’s name, also looks set to soar.

WILLOW: Will and Jada Pinkett Smith chose this for their daughter 11 years ago. Now it has risen from 760 to 290 and is set to go higher.

With balloons, bunting and a polka-dot taxi cab, it looked like the ultimate children’s party. But the invitees were no ordinary guests. Stella McCartney invited celebrities and their offspring to check out mini-me models unveil her Spring/Summer collection.

Stella was joined by friend Kate Moss and her daughter Lila Grace and models Laura Bailey and Liberty Ross, who also brought their children.

The event, held at Sunbeam Studios in Ladbroke Grove, showcased denim, stripes and even a military-style jacket perfect for little fashionistas not on a budget.

The line, which caters for 0-12-year-olds, features pea coats, stripey cashmere-blend knits and darling yellow wellies for splish-splashing around in puddles.

‘As a brand with so many working parents in the team, I wanted to create a fun, desirable, wearable kid’s collection that was affordable,’ she explained.

It appears Gwen Stefani’s style is no longer just for grown-ups.

The successful designer (and No Doubt front woman), announced this week that she’s partnering with Target to create Harajuku Mini, an affordable, two-installment collection for babies, children and tweens.

The line will first debut in Target stores and on target.com on Nov. 13, with a second delivery in January. Prices will range from $3.99 to $29.99.

“Harajuku Mini is a dream come true,” Stefani, 41, told WWD.

“I’ve always wanted to do a cool children’s fashion line inspired by the supercute and playful kid’s clothing you find in Japan.”

Stefani, herself a mom of two young sons, knows her customer well, and says the whole idea of the line “is about being creative, expressing your own individuality and having fun getting dressed.”

This marks the first time the designer, who’s had success with her L.A.M.B. and Harajuku Lovers lines, has created clothes for babies and boys.

“Target has given me the creative freedom to design kid’s clothing that is different than most anything you usually see out there with great quality, attention to detail and most of all, available at amazing prices,” Stefani said.
