Rachel Zoe’s doing it with Skyler. Elton John’s doing it with Zachery. Yep, and Gwen Stefani’s got it going on, Kingston and herself. The Flat CapĀ  seems to be where it’s at.

They can dress up an outfit and give your hipster an edge (just ask Kingston and Skyler). We found a few cute ones at Goorin Bros and also at an online store especially for flat caps….

Think the Beckham boys’ personalised caps look cool? We do, and lets face it, as a parent its fun to order things for your children that are a little bit unique and a little bit them. We found a site, custom hats, that personalizes all types of hats from caps to buckets to the coolest one of all, the bullpen. We uploaded some artwork on their site for a bit of fun, just to see what they look like.

Strolling down Broadway after a late lunch yesterday I was distracted by the small crafts market that’s just popped up at the Madison Square Park.

Amongst the usual that you can expect at such a venue I noticed a very cool collection of childrenswear, Paradis Found, made exclusively with recycled and vintage fabrics. All handmade and one-of-a-kind pieces, there was a fantastic range of coats and hats in preparation for the coming cold months here in NYC.

If you happen to be in the neighborhood over the next month, drop by to check it out (and say hello to Dana Paradis, the designer behind the range). Alternatively, check out their website.

There’s been a revival in the wearing of all types of hats over the last few years, especially for males – a popularity that one imagines hasn’t been seen since the days of Bogart as a private detective, or Audrey Hepburn with oversized shades and extra-long cigarette holder…

But how do you go about choosing a kids hat this spring/summer?

Children’s hats are not just about being functional anymore, and with so many options to choose from you definitely want your child’s hat to work with the rest of his/her wardrobe! There are some very cool designs around, if you are prepared to look.

Just imagine putting your son in this plaid fedora from Goorin teamed with a plain t-shirt or shirt, and some denims. Instant attitude!

Or if the fedora is too much, what about this cool seersucker or stylish gatsby, both also by Goorin!

Every girl needs a pretty sun hat! and there couldn’t be a better option, at least for values sake, than a reversible hat, like this fabulous design from miniBoden. This style of hat is somewhat old fashioned and girly, but that’s the idea and I just love them!
Plus the extra wide brim keeps the sun off precious skin.

For high summer, I think every mum’s personal favorite is the bucket style, also known as the fisherman’s hat. The bucket style seems to suit everyone, boys and girls alike; ‘plonking’ one of these babies on your baby’s head is easy. These are bright and colourful – for him from miniBoden (left), and her from Debenhams (right).

If it’s a more standard type of cap that keeps your little lady happy, how about this military style from Roxy (left), or for him this cadet cap, again from Goorin.

Personally, I think the “cap with fabric down the back to protect the neck from the sun” is not too cool, however extremely functional… but I’m struggling to find one that doesn’t look like it belongs around the beach or in the pool (that is, made of spandex or ’swimmers’ material).

I had some great fun looking around, now I have to cross my fingers and hope I can get my children to wear them!
