This fabulous kids label is filled with colors and designs that look like they came straight out of 1970s.

Add to this, each Tomat design has a limited production run so you won’t bump into another child at school wearing the same. Plus, you know we always like this……. Tomat products are 100% certified organic cotton, the graphics are printed by hand in LA (USA) using water based silk screen ink making them pesticide, herbicide and chemical-free.

The Golden Globes provided us with some Beee-utiful dresses last night. The red carpet arrivals was the most fun to watch (we won’t mention Ricky Gervais’ hosting skills as many people are quite divided, and well, he was a little nasty) ANYWAY – we decided to draw inspiration from the lovely bright frocks worn on some of our favourite movie stars and we found some “mini” versions just for your pretty little hipster-ettes.

If you liked Heidi Klum’s “nod to the 70’s” dress, we found these gorgeous Lilly Pulitzer designs

Sophia Vergara and Julianne Moore’s bright pinks made a bold statement, just like this Mini Marc Jacobs in fuschia

Amy Adam’s navy blue made a simple and bold statement and so does this navy and white Dior. The Little Marc Jacobs elephant and giraffe silk dress is a little more playful.

Angelina Jolie was one of a few actresses who opted for green and it looked stunning with her dark hair. This Juicy Couture feather dress is just as pretty.

This Ralph Lauren orange dress is equally as bright and playful as Kyra Sedgwick’s dress.

Now we actually think that Michelle Williams’ dress is ill fitting and the shape is not at all flattering to her body. But we found a dress by kid’s label Hartstrings that we think is super cute, much closer to her normal style of dressing and still reflects the light floral dress she wore.

thredUP, the premier peer-to-peer online clothing exchange, recently announced the launch of its much-anticipated service for kids clothing. thredUP kids is the place for America’s busiest families to conveniently exchange kids clothing online.

The service aims to bring a new level of affordability, convenience and eco-consciousness to a highly fragmented, billion-dollar market for second-hand children’s clothing.  thredUP kids is designed to help parents easily swap clothes their kids have outgrown for great new items that fit. thredUP’s best-in-class interface allows parents to exchange with their closest friends or with a national network of parents – all from the convenience of home.

thredUP kids combines the best features of some of the most popular sites on the web: Like Netflix, parents can queue up a box of gently used clothes to receive.  Then, similar to eBay, members build virtual boxes of clothing to exchange. Finally, like StubHub, thredUP enables, coordinates and manages the exchanges.  The marketplace facilitates exact matches, ensures quality and remedies the lack of coordination that plagues offline clothing swaps. The service is a complete end-to-end solution for busy parents.

“Children grow out of clothes every 3-6 months, having worn outfits only a couple of times,” said James Reinhart, Chief Knitwit of thredUP.  “Currently parents are spending upwards of $20,000 on kids clothing by the time their child is 17.  And they’re retiring some 1,400 items! We’ve found that many ’swap, buy, sell’ sites are not that enticing to busy parents. They are just too much work. thredUP is all about convenience.”

The kids service launches on the heels of the popular men’s and women’s shirt-swapping site, which went live in October 2009.  While this service already has 10,000 members, the team anticipates that thredUP kids will be an even bigger hit in the hand-me-down market.

“The initial feedback has been tremendous,” said Oliver Lubin, Chief Design Knitwit. “In the first two weeks of a private beta launch we have over 1,500 excited parents signed-up to start swapping. Members seem to love the intuitive interface and overall thredUP experience.”

The service launches invite-only today. For more information about thredUP kids visit: thredUP.com

Last September Sears released their first line of kids clothing co-branded with hiphop icon LL Cool J, including apparel for juniors, kids and young men.

And right now, they have a sale on with up to 50% discounts…!

By partnering with a celebrity like LL Cool J, who has earned 10 platinum albums and two Grammy Awards, the struggling retailer hoped to reach multicultural shoppers, particularly African Americans. Sears said LL Cool J’s line represents shoppers who desire authentic, affordable streetwear. LL cited his mother, wife and three daughters as inspiration for knowing that girls (and boys) want to dress well.

LL was also quoted as saying “One of the happiest times I can remember was my grandfather taking me to Sears every weekend when I was a child. I am pleased to bring an authentic brand to Sears customers across the county who represent those people and family members who influenced the person I am today.”

They have some fantastic items, with a very varied range.

Not literally!
(that would be a lot of kids for the postman to squeeze into your PO Box…)

77 kids by American Eagle

Early last year American Eagle launched their kids brand 77 Kids. Although the plan is supposedly to open store fronts under this brand, currently the only way to purchase is online. This can normally be a little difficult as presentation of clothing is often poor through web shops, or worse, sold from drawings, but the 77 Kids website is not only fun but easy to use with a very comprehensive menu to let you click straight through to the items you want to check out.

Best of all they have fantastic outfit suggestions & (mini) model photos with the actual current-season garments!

As with their American Eagle line, these kids clothes are reasonably priced and pretty damn cool. Be sure to check out their accessories section! – scarves, hats, ties, even braces. Very cool stuff!
We’ve been seeing a lot more kids in hats (rather than just a sports cap) over the last 6 months, which is fantastic! There’s something so much more intriguing and sophisticated about a flat cap, trilby, newsboy or a porkpie hat. And definitely much more fun!

So until we can hit an actual 77 Kids shop, it’s: www.ae.com/77kids

MiniHipster.com at Children’s Club in New York City

Last week the minihipster.com team attended the Fall Edition of the Children’s Club in New York City (by ENK International). The show was home to 810 collections representing over 15 countries, and gave us some great insight into where the market is heading.   Over the next few weeks, we’ll be profiling a number of brands that we particularly  loved from the Children’s Club show, so you can see the latest and greatest trends and products first hand.

The Children’s Club was also the site for the twice annual ENK/VOGUE BAMBINI Runway show. Brands featured included Baby Phat Girlz, Bonnnie Young, Buzz Basics, Diesel, DKNY, Hudson Jeans, Kate Mack, Kissy Kissy, Miki House, Monnalisa, Phat Farm Boys, Snopea and Zutano.

The show’s theme was “Let’s Rock”, and you can check out these minihipsters from the show sporting some very rock’n'roll attire and accessories:

From bonnieyoung – we’re loving this red dress & wishing it came in ‘big’ kids sizes:

From Zutano – too cute! We just love these colorful outfits :

From Miki HOUSE – these little hipsters are adorable:

From Baby Phat Girlz & Phat fashions – very rock’n roll:
