We caught up with Kristen Taylor, creator of Juvie, the online boutique for girls and boys clothing, for her take on Spring 2011 trends.

Kristen:

Girls love the bright prints, looser silhouettes and color blocking. Boys are seeing lots of color and music-influenced graphics.
As children’s trends follow ever-more-closely on the heels of adult fashion, you will see many of the same looks and ideas from the spring 2011 women’s and men’s collections translated for the little ones this same season.

This spring, those trends include color blocking, lots of prints, and longer, looser silhouettes for girls. Girls will be drawn to the fun mix of bright prints from Desigual, a knitwear designer from Spain that does funky cool separates. Ismodern’s designs for spring are similarly rich in tone, but with a more refined feminine look in crisp, color-blocked solids.

Dresses with layers of ruffles that become a bustle have become a must-have from London line No Added Sugar.
Girls looking for the popular beach casual look go for LA Made, a Los Angeles line known for high quality jersey looks. The go-to item this spring is a soft denim tank maxi dress, with a three-tiered skirt.

What can’t Juvie keep in stock this season? For casual wear, buttery soft burnout fleece, tie-dyed for extra
bohemian vibe, is a sensation. Vintage Havana has found the perfect combination of style, crazy comfort,
and price with their butter soft fleece hoodies. Skinny is still the word for girls pants, shorts and capris. It Jeans continues to deliver modern looks, with standouts including a skinny khaki cargo pant, and soft, lightweight denim bike shorts for girls.

Boys will find lots of deep blues, reds and greens in Appaman’s Brooklyn-cool spring line. The trend is
also away from neutrals and toward color for boys t-shirts from Chaser, which feature modern art graphics
and favorite vintage album cover art.

Fashion at the Grammys are always a little more daring and crazy, but that’s not to say the red carpet looks won’t spill over to every day trends.

If you feel like ’stealing their style’, we took some of our favourite red carpet looks and found some mini dresses just as amazing

Nicole Kidman was in Jean Paul Gaultier and we think this Dior is super cute

Julianne Hough and mini D&G

Jennifer Hudson and Florence Eiseman

Jennifer Hudson's navy & sliver is hot. We found this Florence Eiseman which gives a little nod to the 50s

Kellie Osborne and Ralph Lauren

Eva Longoria

The Golden Globes provided us with some Beee-utiful dresses last night. The red carpet arrivals was the most fun to watch (we won’t mention Ricky Gervais’ hosting skills as many people are quite divided, and well, he was a little nasty) ANYWAY – we decided to draw inspiration from the lovely bright frocks worn on some of our favourite movie stars and we found some “mini” versions just for your pretty little hipster-ettes.

If you liked Heidi Klum’s “nod to the 70’s” dress, we found these gorgeous Lilly Pulitzer designs

Sophia Vergara and Julianne Moore’s bright pinks made a bold statement, just like this Mini Marc Jacobs in fuschia

Amy Adam’s navy blue made a simple and bold statement and so does this navy and white Dior. The Little Marc Jacobs elephant and giraffe silk dress is a little more playful.

Angelina Jolie was one of a few actresses who opted for green and it looked stunning with her dark hair. This Juicy Couture feather dress is just as pretty.

This Ralph Lauren orange dress is equally as bright and playful as Kyra Sedgwick’s dress.

Now we actually think that Michelle Williams’ dress is ill fitting and the shape is not at all flattering to her body. But we found a dress by kid’s label Hartstrings that we think is super cute, much closer to her normal style of dressing and still reflects the light floral dress she wore.

There is a new breed of celebrity attracting the fashion industry.

Beautiful, rich and famous, these bright young stars are forging careers very early on – and they need to look the part. With designers eager to dress them, ‘Tween idols’ are beginning to determine what’s hot and what’s not – and they’re not even old enough to drive yet.

Actress Elle Fanning, 12, graced the red carpet earlier this week clad head-to-toe in Valentino couture. An off-the-rack dress by the Italian label averages at around £3,000. But the fashion house, which commands thousands for couture, refuses to even quote for prices on made-to-measure.

Bright young thing: Elle Fanning in Valentino this week , left, Marc Jacobs in September and Azzaro last month

Lucky Elle, who stars in Sofia Copppola’s new film Somewhere, is not limited to Valentino however. She has also been pictured in a series of designer outfits including Marchesa and Marc Jacobs.

Elle is joined by a host of young Hollywood counterparts , who have their pick of labels most adult celebrities don’t have access to.

Kick Ass actress Chloe Moretz, 13, in Chanel, Willow Smith, 10, has her own stylist and Madonna’s daughter Lourdes, 14, has her own fashion line

Actress Chloe Moretz, 13, who shot to fame in Kick Ass, turned up at the British Academy Children’s Awards in London last month sporting Chanel. Willow Smith, offspring of Will and Jada Pinkett, has become something of an icon since her single ‘Whip My Hair’ went viral, attracting 3.7m views before being released. And thousands of fans are rushing to copy the ten-year-old’s unique sense of style, reminiscent of pop star Rihanna, who at 22 is more than double her age.

Suri Cruise, left, Kingston Rossdale and Honor Marie are style icons in the making

Despite most of the outfits being appropriate, this sudden surge in high end fashion houses clambering to dress children leaves one wondering where they will draw the line. As trend-setting celebrities just get younger, their extensive wardrobes only create unrealistic expectations for fans who yearn to imitate their idols, whatever the cost. Suri Cruise, who was voted world’s most influential tot in 2008, was detected by fashion radars with her adorable outfits and reports soon began to emerge that her wardrobe was worth a staggering $1m.

But the toddler also sparked debate when she was pictured several times sporting high-heels and make-up. But regardless of controversy, one thing is for sure: designers are intent on cashing-in on the lucrative popularity of child-stars. And judging by public fascination, their rapidly rising status shows no signs of slowing down.

We sat down with Vanessa Benedict, buyer at kids online shopping site Alexandalexa.com to get her insight into what parents (and their kids) are going to be looking at, as well as what they should be putting on their ‘must have’ list this Autumn/Fall.

MH: What are 3 key trends coming through for Fall?

VB: Number 1 is definitely FAUX FUR: This is the key texture of the season, seen on everything from boots to coats, we love our faux fur pieces because they let you have all the fun of fur without all the guilt.  We love these Fendi  check print fur boots for babies and Rachel Riley’s Vintage style fur jacket for girls and the Burberry faux fur trimmed jacket for boys!

Number 2. LEOPARD PRINT: This fun feline trend is perfect for your fashion forward fashionista. Our favourite Leopard Print pieces for kids are the Hunter Welly Black Leopard Print Fleece Socks and our Mayoral Leopard Print Coat.

Number 3. CHUNKY CARDIGAN: Perfect for those warmer autumn days, when a full winter coat is too much – and the type of thing you can throw over anything to create that cosy laid back look.

MH: As a buyer, what is your all time favourite piece for this season?

VB: I am a huge fan of black outerwear, it is just so practical and perfect for all occasions. The 3.0 Kid By Phillip Lim Double Satin Bow Coat is probably my favourite coat on the site, it is classic and luxurious, I would love to have one for myself! (note from MH: we agree! we would love a grown up version for us!)

MH: What is a “must have” item for both a girl and boys wardrobe?
VB: For any fall wardrobe, shoes are key. For girls, I think Ugg Boots are an essential for any girl, they are everything you would want in a shoe, comfortable, practical, versatile, stylish, luxurious and affordable. I really like these Pink Bailey Button Boots by UGG which have the traditional and stylish shape of classic UGGS, but with a girly twist. For boys I think the Timberland Fleece Lined boots are fantastic because they can be worn laced all the way up, or pulled down revealing the fleece lining. Again, they are practical and stylish, perfect for everyday wear.

MH: Can you recommend a key ‘basic’ item for both boys and girls that will go with almost anything? A “throw on and look good” piece?
VB: For girls, I think a dressy cardigan, like the Kid by Phillip Lim Caramel Chunky Knit Cardigan, is right on trend and is easy to wear, it looks great over a dress or with jeans and a t-shirt.

For boys, I think a check shirt is a great staple; I especially like this double panel check shirt from Scotch & Soda
